My Work Philosophy: Never waste a good crisis
With the 21st-century global challenges of climate change, plastic crisis, nature loss, and the complex threats they pose to human societies and the natural world, I see the opportunity for imminent and radical innovation and collaboration across industries and value chains. As we collectively head towards the destruction of the natural world, this multi-crisis urges us to learn from the principles of the natural world and asks us to build overlapping functions and extensive networks of industry collaborators across industries and regions.
Coming from a versatile professional background of more professions, spanning Human Health & Special Aid, HR & Organization, and finally, Fashion & Licensing, I am well versed in the synthesis and synergies conceiving from bringing multiple, even opposing, stakeholders together. Having worked internationally for decades in a crisscross of cultures and professions, I find transparency and curiosity to be my best travel companions. From the projects I have worked on, I have learned that professionals and organizations can bypass some of their objectives to reach a shared agenda if the rewards make sense to them. Working this way, I have honed the understanding that good solutions are when everyone benefits somewhat from working together, and no single stakeholder should ever get all the benefits. Clear communication is a must, and I am comfortable and confident with even difficult conversations, as clarity can be both respectful and constructive. I take setbacks in stride, and I am generally optimistic. I am a self-starter, disciplined, and have great follow-through. My record shows that I successfully reached the goals of any given project I have taken on. I thrive when facilitating other stakeholders in reaching a consensus and a path forward for their projects.
A new generation of stakeholders is entering the work realm, and as a group, they travel with some distinctively more sensitive traits than my previous collaborators. For my future work and development, I strive to see where my peers and I can modify or grow to welcome this generation and learn from them as they bring on new angles that are not apparent to us. I hope the industrial sustainability efforts I am part of will be industry standards for the coming decades. However, this cannot be done without involvement from the younger, emerging professionals, as they will add other standards and thresholds that my generation hasn’t even considered yet. It is my manifest, while passing on the work to the next generation, that I can also bring the experience and assurance to them that even when facing the overwhelming complex multi-crisis which we are now facing, there is no need to waste these crises.
